In 2014, armed separatist groups, supported by Russian troops, occupied part of the Ukrainian Donbas. The line of demarcation was formed as a result of hostilities and profit tore apart this region. During the fighting, a significant part of the infrastructure of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions was destroyed.
Large-scale battles in the Donbass have ceased, but positional battles continue. The war entered the phase of «frozen conflict», without a political solution.
In the series of photographs «Frozen Conflict» I presented a «symbolic portrait» of the image of the territory. This is a search for a visual identity, an attempt to capture the visual markers of today’s Donbass.
