In 2014, armed separatist groups, with the support of Russian troops, occupied part of the Ukrainian Donbass. A border has formed between the Ukrainian military and illegal armed groups. The city of Gold is on the line of demarcation. For various reasons, people could not leave the war zone. For 6 years, they have to hide in shelters from shelling and attacks of militants.
In 2019, the two warring parties agreed to begin the withdrawal of troops from this settlement. The city Gold was supposed to be without military support. This would allow the militants to enter the city and take revenge on the civilians who were on the side of Ukraine. People were scared for their lives. They had no guarantees of security after the withdrawal of troops. Human life is priceless, but in war people become the subject of political bargaining.
