«Pietà» (Italian Pietà —compassion, love, mercy) refers to an ancient artistic motif depicting the Virgin Mary mourning over the body of the crucified Christ. In this project, the classical image is transformed into a contemporary archetype: Ukrainian mothers who have lost their sons in the war hold not the body, but memory. The figure of the mother becomes a symbol of Ukraine itself — wounded, yet unbroken. The project functions as a kind of requiem and confession, where individual stories merge into a collective voice. In times of war, public grief is often subjected to censorship, retreating into the private sphere so as not to cause panic or undermine support for military efforts. In this context, mothers mourn their children silently, alone, outside the public eye   a silence that becomes a form of invisible violence.

The multimedia project Pietà breaks this silence, creating a space for public mourning. It restores to mothers the right to voice and dignity in their loss, transforming private tragedy into part of the collective memory and national experience.
