In 2014, armed separatist groups, supported by Russian troops, occupied part of the Ukrainian Donbas. A border was formed between the Ukrainian military and illegal armed groups. The city of Gold is located on the line of demarcation. People for various reasons could not leave the war zone. For 9 years they lived under shelling and attacks by militants. At the moment, the city of Gold is under Russian occupation.
